Job Title: IP Counsel

Eligibility: M.Sc. or PhD in inorganic chemistry, polymer chemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, chemistry or software engineering

Experienced: Registered patent agent and/or Bachelor of Law or Masters of IP law would be preferred/ 2 years plus of experience in the field of IP

Objectives
BASF offers the global role of IP Counsel as part of the Global IP department including the full scope of responsibilities and

full exposure to the worldwide organisation. The position is located at Innovation Campus in Mumbai. You will be transforming BASF’s valuable inventions into valid intellectual property rights by working directly on inventions from all BASF sites worldwide. In addition, you will advise the business units on all IP related matters. In your new role, you will directly interact with scientists and business managers from all over the world and become an integral part of the BASF global research network.
The IP group in Mumbai comprises more than 15 IP professionals and forms an integral part of the BASF Global IP department.

Main Tasks

Responsible for IP matters in one highly innovative technical area, e.g. home care products, polymer applications, agricultural products, batteries or process development, including – Drafting patent applications for worldwide prosecution including filing at the EPO and USPTO- Drafting replies to Office Action for several jurisdictions including EP and US and
– Providing FTO and patentability opinions
– Monitoring and Managing the IP process form draft until grant and enforcement
– Proactively harvesting innovative ideas from the scientists and developers
– Providing IP training to scientists and developers in liaison with the related business unit
– Contributing to the continuous improvement of the IP group to further excel in operational excellence
– Receiving in-house and external training and become an expert in EP and US patent law
– Sharing knowledge in global virtual teams of the IP department
