Job Description

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited is looking for a Synthetic Organic Chemist with strong hands-on experience in organic synthesis and prior peptide or macrocyclic peptide chemistry to support small-molecule drug-discovery programmes.

This is a discovery-chemistry bench role supporting Alembic’s small-molecule and peptide-enabled drug-discovery work. Candidates should be comfortable with route design/troubleshooting, purification, and analytical confirmation (LC-MS/HPLC/NMR), and should already have peptide-synthesis exposure as a hard requirement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute multistep organic synthesis from milligram to gram scale.
  • Optimize and troubleshoot synthetic routes for yield, purity, reproducibility and scalability.
  • Apply coupling reactions, protecting-group strategies and functional-group transformations.
  • Perform compound isolation and purification using column chromatography and preparative HPLC.
  • Interpret LC-MS, analytical HPLC and NMR data to confirm compound identity and assess purity.
  • Apply prior peptide chemistry expertise to route planning and problem-solving.

Eligibility Criteria

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry, preferably Organic Chemistry.
  • 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in drug discovery, pharmaceutical or CRO environments.
  • Prior hands-on peptide synthesis experience is required.

Required Skills

  • Experience with SPPS/LPPS, HATU/EDC/DIC coupling, Fmoc/Boc chemistry, peptide cleavage, preparative HPLC and lyophilization.
  • Strong experience in synthetic organic chemistry, multistep synthesis and compound characterization.
