Are you looking for OPCW research funding to support innovative chemistry research? The OPCW Programme for Support of Research Projects invites proposals for small-scale research projects focused on peaceful applications of chemistry. Researchers can explore areas including analytical methods, toxic chemical detection, chemical safety, dual-use chemicals, and artificial intelligence in chemistry. Selected projects can receive financial support of up to EUR 30,000 per project, with a fellowship duration of three years.

About OPCW

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) works to implement the Chemical Weapons Convention and promote the peaceful use of chemistry. As part of its international cooperation programme, the OPCW Technical Secretariat runs the Programme for Support of Research Projects. Programme objective

As part of its international cooperation programme for capacity building in the areas of peaceful applications of chemistry, the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW runs the Programme for Support of Research Projects to support small-scale research projects in developing countries and countries with economies in transition that are Member States of the OPCW. This OPCW research project support programme helps build capacity for peaceful applications of chemistry.

Areas of focus

  1. technologies for the destruction of toxic chemicals in a safe and environmentally sound manner;
  2. management and risk assessment with respect to the handling and use of toxic chemicals, as well as their storage;
  3. development of analytical methods and validation techniques for toxic chemicals;
  4. detection and characterisation techniques and methods relevant to the Convention;
  5. medical treatment and prophylactics for exposure to toxic chemicals;
  6. alternatives to scheduled chemicals for purposes not prohibited under the Convention;
  7. mitigation of safety and security risks associated with dual-use chemicals;
  8. risks and opportunities in the field of the application of artificial intelligence in chemistry; and
  9. any other application of chemistry for purposes not prohibited under the Convention.
