About the Organization

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a statutory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, functioning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. FSSAI serves as the apex food regulator responsible for ensuring food safety and maintaining food standards across the country. Through the FSSAI Internship 2026, students gain hands-on experience in food regulation, quality assurance, scientific research, public policy, and food safety administration. The FSSAI Internship 2026 is being offered for the July–September 2026 quarter. Eligible students pursuing full-time Graduate, Post Graduate, B.Tech, BE, Diploma, Law, Commerce, Public Policy, Journalism, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, and Chemistry-related programs can apply. This Government Internship provides opportunities to work at FSSAI Headquarters, Regional Offices, and National

Food Laboratories across India.

Eligibility Criteria:

Students only pursuing a full-time Graduate/Post Graduate Degree/higher degree from a Recognized Institute within India/abroad, in any of the following:

  • Pursuing a Post Graduate Degree/B.Tech/BE from a recognized University or Institution in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Technology, Food Science & Technology, Food & Nutrition, Edible Oil Technology, Microbiology, Dairy Technology, Agricultural or horticultural Sciences, Industrial Microbiology, Toxicology, Public Health, Life Science, Biotechnology, Fruit & Vegetable Technology, or Food Safety & Quality Assurance.
  • Business Administration & Management, including policy regulation, Finance, Taxation Law, Marketing, Psychology, Human Resource, Economics, Statistics, Information and Communication Technology, Entrepreneurship, etc., and related fields.
  • PG Diploma/Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, and Public Relations.
  • B.E./B. Tech (Only 3rd and 4th Year students, not for 2nd or Ist Year) in Computer Science/Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related Stream.
  • Post Graduate Degree/Diploma in Public Policy, Public Administration – Only for FSSAI (HQ).
  • Bachelor’s/Master of Laws.
  • Bachelor of Commerce & Equivalent courses.

Note: All the students who have completed their abovementioned courses need not apply. Multiple Applications will not be entertained. All candidates should ensure that the place for internship that they are opting for has a subject/topic available with that place, i.e., in case of the FSSAI lab, only technically qualified candidates will be eligible. Tenure:

Internship will be available on a quarterly basis throughout the year. Internship shall be offered for a minimum duration of 2 months, which may be extended to a maximum period of 6 months. No internship of duration less than 2 months will be offered.

Place of Internship and Area/Domain Available for Internship:

  • FSSAI (HQ), New Delhi: Human Resource, Information Technology, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Compliance, Science and Standards, Imports/Trade and International Cooperation, Legal, Policy Coordination Unit, Social And Behavioural Change, Training and Central Procurement Unit, and General Administration.
  • Regional Offices:
    • (a) ERO Kolkata
    • (b) NRO Ghaziabad
    • (c) SRO Chennai
  • National Food Laboratories:
    • (a) NFL Ghaziabad
    • (b) NFL Kolkata
    • (c) NFL Kolkata extension center, Raxaul
    • (d) NFL Chennai

    Food Imports Clearance and Licensing, Food Sampling and Testing.

Working Space:

Interns would be required to have their own laptops. FSSAI shall provide working space, internet facility, and other necessities, but shall not cover local lodging and travel facilities. FSSAI will not bear the expenses of any boarding.

Application Process:

  • Interested and eligible students can apply online in the specified format as per the timelines provided by FSSAI. Applicants who had applied for an internship for a particular quarter and were not selected need to apply again for the next quarter.
  • The candidates applying for an internship may be required to submit a short write-up/presentation in the application portal for final selection.
  • All applications will be scrutinized by the concerned Nodal Officers nominated for the internship.
  • The final list of selected candidates, along with their date of joining and Internship tenure, would be declared online on the FSSAI website.

Assignments:

Interns would be attached to one of the several Divisions at FSSAI (HQ)/ROs/Labs, depending on the academic and technical training and assigned project(s) related to different aspects of Food and Nutrition Management Processes.

Stipend:

A stipend of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand only) for the whole internship period will be given to the deserving Interns on the recommendation of the Office/Division that they are attached with. The criteria for deserving interns will be decided based on their attendance, assessment by their respective reporting officers, and evaluation of their reports by Divisional Heads at FSSAI (HQ) and Director at ROs/NFLs.

Certificate:

All the interns will be awarded a certificate on successful completion of the internship, i.e., on submission and review of the final report/presentation, by their respective Divisional Heads at FSSAI (HQ) and the Director at ROs/NFLS.
