Notice for the NISER Summer Internship Programme (NSIP)

Online applications are invited from Indian students for the following program from the eligible students registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses for the summer internship programme scheduled to commence from 16th May to 15th July 2026 in the following schools of NISER, Bhubaneswar.

  • School of Biological Sciences (SBS)
  • School of Chemical Sciences (SCS)
  • School of Computer Sciences (SCoS)
  • School of Earth & Planetary Sciences (SEPS)
  • School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS)
  • School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS)
  • School of Physical Sciences (SPS)
  • Centre for Medical and Radiation Physics (CMRP)

Eligibility: School Minimum Educational Qualifications

Biological Sciences: Students should have registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with Biological Sciences/Biotech as a major subject in recognized Universities/Institutions.

Chemical Sciences: Students should have registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with Chemical Sciences/chemical engineering as a major subject in recognized Universities/Institutions.

Computer Sciences: Students should have registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with Computer Sciences/computer engineering as a major subject in recognized Universities/Institutions.

Earth & Planetary Sciences: Students should have registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with Earth and Planetary Sciences as a major subject in recognized Universities/Institutions.

Humanities and Social Sciences: Students should have registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with English/Economics/Psychology/Sociology as one of the subjects as a major subject in recognized Universities/Institutions.

Mathematical Sciences: Students should have registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with Mathematical Sciences as a major subject in recognized Universities/Institutions.

Physical Sciences: Students should have registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with Physical Sciences/Materials science/electrical/mechanical engineering as a major subject in recognized Universities/Institutions.

Centre for Medical and Radiation Physics (CMRP): Students should have registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with radiation physics as a major subject in recognized Universities/Institutions.

Programme Details

  • The summer programme will be conducted from May 16th to July 15th, 2026.
  • No extension for a longer stay will be considered in this programme.
  • Students who have availed this programme earlier in NISER will not be considered again.
  • Applications will be considered only for the PIs for whom vacancies/seats are advertised.
  • Applicants can contact the faculty directly, get their acceptance, and/or apply to NSIP only with a consent letter/e-mail received from the faculty.
  • The selection of students will be done by the respective PI/Faculty.
  • A limited number of selected interns who are not receiving any financial support/fellowship/internship grant from any agency/Academy/Central or State Government will be paid a stipend @ ₹5,000/ per month & to and fro single-travel support of Second Class Sleeper train fare after the successful completion of the programme.
  • No programme fee will be charged from the interns under this programme.
  • Hostel accommodation may be provided on a chargeable basis @ ₹30/- per day, subject to availability.

How to Apply

Interested students may apply for the above programme by filling out the Google application form and providing all the required information there. Details about the PIs and diverse research areas/activities of the respective school can be found in the link. Applicants need to upload the scanned copy of the “Bonafide-Cum-No Objection Certificate” in the prescribed format (given in page 6), duly issued by a competent authority.

Important Dates

  • Online application portal will be activated on – 25th February 2026
  • Last date for filling up online application – 10th April 2026
  • The short-listed candidates’ list will be uploaded on the 20th – 25th April 2025 on the NISER website.

* Applications received after the last date & without “Bonafide-Cum-No Objection Certificate” in the given format will not be considered.

* Applicants may arrange reference letters from two referees, which should be sent directly by email to the programme coordinator of the respective schools on or before 10th April 2025.

General Terms & Conditions

  • The data or any intellectual property generated from the summer Internship/short-term/long-term project work by the students shall entirely be owned by NISER with full rights of its use for academic & research purposes.
  • The Summer Interns shall have no rights to the data generated during their project work at NISER. The use of the said data by them for any purpose, including authorship in publications, patents, or any other commercial, non-commercial, or academic research without prior approval/consent of the competent authority of NISER, is completely prohibited. However, the data can only be used to prepare the project report/dissertation thesis under the supervision of the respective faculty guide/PI. Students may deposit a copy of the stated project report to their parent institution if required for academic purposes.
  • The Summer Interns shall have to maintain strict confidentiality & utmost care while disclosing or dealing with the data/information pertaining to the Institute/school/lab/instrumentation, etc.
