Student Internship Program

Student Internship Training Program Guidelines:

The CSIR-NCL Internship Program is designed to enhance R&D in the country by nurturing the research skills of promising undergraduate and postgraduate students. The program aims to

develop students’ expertise in selected disciplines through projects and summer internships. We invite talented UG (BE or B.Tech) and PG (ME, M.Tech, MSc, M. Pharm.) students from universities and colleges to participate in our internship program, allowing them to gain specialized research skills and hands-on experience.

Our internships are available in various fields, including chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemical sciences, physics, polymers, advanced materials, management, and other research areas of interest to CSIR-NCL. Students who wish to undertake academic projects lasting 2 to 12 months as part of their academic curriculum are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have an excellent academic record, a strong research interest, and the aptitude to pursue it.

Fee:

Please be informed that no fees or charges are associated with this training/project work, and no stipend or fellowship is provided for short-term trainees. Selected students must arrange their travel to and from the location and secure their boarding and lodging for the duration of the project/training. After selection, students may notify their guides if they require on-campus accommodation, which will be considered on a shared basis depending on availability and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. However, please note that accommodation or meal services are not guaranteed, so students should be prepared to make independent arrangements for travel, lodging, and other needs.

Preparing documents before applying online: Please have a soft copy of your passport-sized photo (5- 50 kB) and your e-signature (5- 25 kB).

Documents needed at the time of joining CSIR-NCL:

  • A recommendation letter on official letterhead from your institute/university/college.
  • The Intellectual Property (IP) Agreement form will be available for download on the intern dashboard if the Guide/Project Leader shortlists it.
  • The guide/PL will provide a cover letter from the NCL Guide/Project Leader.

Duration of Training Program:

  • The minimum duration of the training program is 2 (two) months.
  • The maximum duration of the training program is 12 (twelve) months.
  • The summer and short-term training programs range from 2 to 3 months.
  • The exact duration will depend on the project requirements and the Guide/Project Leader’s recommendation, but it will remain within the 2- to 12-month range.

Procedure to join the Internship Program:

The following procedure is recommended for seeking short-term training placement at CSIR-NCL:

  1. Identify a specific scientist/guide with whom you would like to undertake the internship training program. To do this, please visit the NCL Scientist Search website or the NCL Academic website.

Note:

  1. Candidates must send or submit a hard copy of the application form to CSIR-NCL 2-3 weeks before their joining date.
  2. The application should be accompanied by a recommendation letter (original copy) from their college or university and a duly filled Intellectual Property (IP) form (original copy).
  3. The IP form must be signed by the head of the institute or department and must be completed with an official stamp and seal.
  4. All these forms will be available on the candidate’s dashboard once they are selected for the internship program.
  5. There is no time limit for shortlisting or calling candidates for the internship program.
  6. If an intern position becomes available, the candidate will be notified.
