Role Description
The QC Lab Chemist is responsible for performing chemical and instrumental analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and stability samples to ensure compliance with approved specifications, pharmacopeial standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing
- Perform routine and non-routine analysis of:
- Raw materials
- In-process samples
- Finished pharmaceutical products
- Stability samples
- Conduct tests as per IP, USP, BP, EP, and in-house specifications.
- Operate and maintain analytical instruments such as:
- HPLC, GC, UV, IR
- Dissolution apparatus
- Karl Fischer, pH meter, balance
Documentation & Compliance
- Record analytical results accurately in laboratory notebooks and test records.
- Prepare and review Certificates of Analysis (COA).
- Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in OOS, OOT, deviations, and CAPA investigations.
Instrument & Method Management
- Perform calibration and qualification of laboratory instruments.
- Assist in method validation, method verification, and method transfer.
- Maintain instrument logbooks and calibration records.
Quality & Audit Support
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of samples.
- Follow laboratory safety, housekeeping, and EHS guidelines.
Qualifications: B.Sc / M.Sc in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or Analytical Chemistry (B.Pharm / M.Pharm may also be considered)
Experience
- 1–2 years (Junior QC Chemist)
- 2–5+ years (Experienced QC Chemist)
- Experience in a pharma QC laboratory preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry
- Hands-on experience with HPLC and other instruments
- Understanding of GMP and pharmacopeial requirements
- Good documentation and data integrity practices
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in shifts (if required)
Work Environment
- Pharmaceutical quality control laboratory
- Shift-based work may be required
- Compliance with safety and cleanroom standards
