Position Details

• Name of the Post: Project Assistant (Temporary and Contractual Basis)
• No. of posts: 01
• Qualification:
  B.E / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline from a recognized university or institute.
  Or
  Master’s degree in Physics / Chemistry / Biology or allied subjects.
• Consolidated Emoluments: Rs. 32,000/-
• Age: 30 years.

Experience:
3 years of hands-on experience in operating and maintaining a High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM). Candidates should possess sound technical knowledge of the instrument’s electron optics, vacuum systems, cryo-systems, and analytical attachments such as EDS, STEM, Diffraction imaging, and EELS. Experience in alignment, calibration, data acquisition, troubleshooting of mechanical and vacuum-related issues, and basic preventive maintenance is required. Experience with research laboratory practices, working with scientific users, and maintaining detailed operational logs and maintenance records is required.

Note: Relaxation in experience criteria may be considered if a suitable number of applications are not received as per the advertised criteria.

Preference:
A candidate having hands-on experience in operating the JEOL JEM-2200FS (200 keV) HR-TEM instrument will be preferred.

Job Requirements:

• The selected candidate for the Project Assistant Job at IISER Pune will:
• Operate and maintain the JEOL JEM-2200FS HRTEM for both internal and external research users.
• Ensure safe handling of samples, accurate data collection, and optimum instrument performance.
• Perform routine maintenance and coordinate with service engineers for major repairs or upgrades.
• Assist researchers in experimental setup, data interpretation, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain detailed logs for instrument usage, downtime, and consumables.
• Contribute to developing new imaging and analytical techniques as required by ongoing projects.
• Tenure of the Appointment:

Initially, for a period of one year, extendable for a further period, subject to funding and the incumbent’s satisfactory performance.
