About the Foundation

About The Programme
The Raman Charpak Fellowship 2025 is a prestigious Indo-French research exchange programme jointly supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, and CEFIPRA (Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research). Named after two Nobel Laureates – Prof. C.V. Raman (India, 1930) and Prof. Georges Charpak (France, 1992) – this fellowship aims to enhance scientific collaboration between India and France through doctoral and master’s student exchanges.
This programme is now also open to French Master’s Students who wish to spend some time in India in accordance with their curriculum. It aims at improving the Master’s skills of French students by providing them with an opportunity to carry out internship work in a University / Research Institute based in India.
TARGET GROUP
- PhD students registered in Indian or French universities/research institutes.
- Master’s students from France (as per their academic curriculum).
DURATION
Fellowship tenure: 2 to 5 months, allowing candidates to undertake short-term research projects in Indian or French institutions under expert supervision.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
FOR INDIAN APPLICANTS:
- Must be Indian citizens residing in India.
- Registered for a PhD (2nd or 3rd year only) at a recognized Indian university or research institution.
FOR FRENCH APPLICANTS:
- Must be residing in France.
- Registered for a PhD or Master’s degree in a recognized French university or research institution.
Common Requirements:
- Prior authorization from the home institution to apply for a foreign fellowship.
- A recommendation or agreement letter from the host supervisor/institution is mandatory.

Funding Support from CEFIPRA
- For Indian Fellows (visiting France):
- €1710 per month (includes daily expenses, accommodation, and local travel).
- For French Fellows (visiting India):
- ₹40,000 per month for expenses and local travel.
- Accommodation support up to ₹45,000 per month.
Additional Support for Both:
- Return economy airfare (India ↔ France).
- Travel and health insurance (if required).
- Visa, registration, and residency card costs (if applicable).
- Up to €500 (or equivalent) for participation in a seminar/workshop during the fellowship period.
