The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur invites applications from highly motivated students for admission to the Ph.D. Programme starting January 2026.
Currently, IISER Berhampur offers Ph.D. programs in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Computational Data Sciences. Candidates interested in interdisciplinary research closely related to these mainstream areas are also encouraged to apply.

B. Eligibility Criteria:
- Master’s degree (M.Sc./MCA/M.Tech.) in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI 7.0 on a 10-point scale.
- Relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
- Valid national-level exam qualification (NET/GATE/UGC-JRF/CSIR-JRF/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/INSPIRE-PhD/JEST/JGEEBILS or equivalent)** is mandatory.**
- For Physical Sciences, vacancies are open only for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-NCL categories.
Exemptions:
- Candidates with B.Tech/B.E./B.S. from CFTIs with a CGPA ≥ 8.0.
- BS-MS graduates from any IISER with a CGPA ≥ 8.0.
- Exceptionally qualified MBBS graduates may also apply.
C. Reservation Policy:
As per the Government of India norms under the Ministry of Education.
D. Age Limit & Relaxation:
- Maximum age: 28 years at the time of joining.
- Relaxation: 3 years (OBC-NCL), 5 years (SC/ST/PwD/Female) candidates.
E. Financial Assistance:
Admitted candidates will receive financial assistance as per IISER Berhampur or the funding agency norms.
Selection Process & Important Instructions:
- The selection interview will be conducted offline.
- Communication with candidates will be via email only.
- Candidates appearing in their final year examinations may apply, but must produce a provisional degree certificate at admission.
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email and the IISER Berhampur website.
- TA will be provided to SC/ST candidates for interviews as per the Government of India rules.
- Fulfilling eligibility does not guarantee shortlisting for interviews.
