Job Description
As a Chemist (Raw Material & Sand Testing Engineer – Foundry Quality Assurance) at Electrosteel Group, you will ensure the quality and compliance of incoming raw materials, sand, and ductile iron parameters. You will support mechanical and chemical testing processes, maintain quality documentation, and assist in audits to ensure compliance with ISO and NABL standards in the foundry.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and verify raw materials, including pig iron, CRC scrap, ferroalloys, and additives, for their chemical and physical properties.
- Perform regular testing of Green Sand, No-Bake Sand, and Neno Sand, evaluating parameters such as AFS grain fineness, SiO₂% %, moisture% %, Compactability, and Green Strength.
- Conduct chemical analysis of ductile iron (%C, %Si, %Mn, %P, %S, %Mg, %Al, %VM).
- Perform hardness testing (Brinell/Rockwell) and support metallurgical and microstructure evaluations.
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and test reports in accordance with ISO, NABL, and internal quality standards.
- Assist in Central Material Lab (CML) testing and validation of material specifications.
- Support internal and external audits, including ISO, NABL, and customer audits, with relevant documentation.
Qualifications
- Diploma or B.Sc in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a foundry or material testing lab.
- Hands-on experience with spectrometers, sand testing equipment, and mechanical testing tools.
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025 quality standards.
