IISER Kolkata – Invites Applications For the Post of Research Associate

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata) was established in 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. IISER Kolkata is designed to reach the prestigious position in the global setting that IISc, IIMs and IITs presently enjoy. IISER Kolkata is an autonomous institution awarding its own degrees. The central theme of the IISER Kolkata is to integrate education with research so that undergraduate teaching as well as doctoral and postdoctoral research work could be carried out in symbiosis.

Applications are invited from the citizens of India for Research Associate position in a DST sponsored project undertaken in the Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER-Kolkata.

This temporary position is for a period of 4-6 months. The requisite qualification, experience, etc. are given below:

Project title: Metal complexes of nitrogen mustards as anticancer agents- studying the influence of nutrients and enhanced selectivity in hypoxia

Funding agency: Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India Project

Salary: As per DST and within the norms of IISER-K

Job Description: The project involves the design, synthesis and characterization of metal complexes of mustards/nitrosoureas and

relevant compounds. The recruited personnel will have to perform kinetic studies using UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, various assays (including but not limited to MTT assay, caspase assay), western blots etc

Qualifications: Suitable candidates must have submitted their thesis (preferably from Inorganic Chemistry background) or must have a Ph. D. degree in Chemistry. They are required to have sound knowledge of synthetic chemistry, expertise in solving single crystal structures. Must be able to analyze NMR data and operate 400 MHz NMR for simple routine experiments. Knowledge of analyzing UV-vis spectroscopy data. Knowledge of mammalian cell culture and various cancer relevant in vitro assays and western blotting technique is very important for the work.
